Machines and plants consist of various structural components and assembly units. They must be made comparable in order to select the suitable ones. Below is a concise summary of the main comparison features of self-acting control valves.

1. Less components mean shorter conversion times

Self-acting control valves are operated by the medium. They do neither need any external power connection nor an actuator („motor“). This saves components in the machine and/or plant.

The less components are available in a control valve, the easier and quicker it is to service. This reduces maintenance costs and saves time during staff training.

By replacing components, the control characteristics of the valve can be changed in an uncomplicated way. Changing the pressure range can be done by simply replacing the spring (for ex. from hard to soft) and adjusting the control surface. This makes the process more flexible.

2. Minor assembly work through fast installation

Valves are more lightweight without actuator and often need less installation space in the machine or plant. Lower weight and volume facilitate their handling to the fitter.

The actuator for valves with auxiliary energy must be positioned on top of the valve. Self-acting control valves are more flexible with regards to their installation position. This does not only facilitate installation but also planning of the machine or plant.

3. High added value thanks to less technical personnel required

A valve that does not require electricity supply can be installed without an electrician. This saves costs for personnel and acceptance.

Self-acting industrial valves need not be controlled by qualified personnel but must only be set during installation. The medium assumes the control of the industrial valve thus reducing the coordination workload.

4. Minimised failure probability ensures continuous product quality

This kind of control valves operates according to mere physical laws. Once the valve is pre-set, it strictly operates on basis of these alterable settings.

Since natural laws cannot be influenced, the self-acting control valve will continue to operate even in the event of a power failure.

Continuous processes ensure continuous product quality. This is particularly important for the food industry. Such a process does not permit contamination with germs. As a result, hygiene standards can be complied with.

5. A self-sufficient industrial valve provides safety for the environment

As long as the medium flows, the valve is operating!

Plants in the food industry are often cleaned with steam, acid or basic solutions (CIP). Such media may be harmful to the environment. Thanks to their spring cap, no medium emerges from self-acting industrial valves even if, for example, cracks should occur in the diaphragm. In addition, hazardous media can be drained through a leakage line.

A spring cap further protects the spring from external influences and the plant operator from accidentally touching the spring.
